Objective

In June 26, 2008, the Linux Phone Standards (LiPS) Forum announced that its activities and membership will be folded into LiMo Foundation as of July, 2008.

Last year Google introduce his Android Platform. And Nokia recently announce open source its Symbian Platform. Open Source Software has gradually become the mainstream platform for mobile handset and device.

III hope to introduce these open source platforms to Taiwan information industry; and further, To promote the usage of Open Source Software in Taiwan information industry.

  • Intel Moblin : An open source project focused on developing software for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and other new categories of devices such as netbooks and nettops.
  • Linpus Linux Lite : A Linux distribution was written to run on devices with lower cost hardware such as UMPCs. It has both an icon and tab-based "Simple mode", designed for new users; and, a conventional style "PC mode" for those requiring a more Microsoft Windows-like interface.
  • gOS : A Linux distribution created by 'Good OS LLC', a Los Angeles-based corporation. The company initially advertised it as "An alternative OS with Google Apps and other Web 2.0 apps for the modern user." gOS was based on Compiz fusion, Gnome, and the Avant Window Navigator dock manager.
  • LIMO : An alliance founded by Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics, and Vodafone in January 2007 to co-develop the LiMo Platform, a Linux-based mobile platform operating system.
  • OpenMoko : A project which encompasses two related sub-projects, with the combined aim of creating a family of open source mobile phones. The project was founded by FIC.
